Giuliana Rancic attended the Academy Awards – an annual clothing and celeb showcase – in a form-fitting feathery, sheer, sequined, floor-length white gown which flowed over her figure. Not many women who were diagnosed with breast cancer just a few months before would be doing that, but Rancic had a mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, and appears to have escaped from chemo and radiation. The slender E! News host has been open about her struggles with infertility treatments and her diagnosis of early-stage breast cancer, found in both breasts. Giuliana Rancic will host the Miss USA pageant in June, and is on the the Style Network, E! News and Fashion Police. So you know that looking good is important to her, and staying in style is mandatory. But should that trump her health concerns?
Rancic recently told Us Magazine that, “Breast cancer hasn’t changed me.” Hmm, I’m not sure what she means by that. She lost both breasts, still hasn’t been able to conceive a baby (treatments can whack fertility), and went through the classic emotional crisis when her mammograms revealed those troublesome lumps. So what are her priorities? Here are some quotes from Rancic: “I’ll be totally honest. While I was recovering, I was thinking, ‘I’m really going to be asking people what they’re wearing? I didn’t know if I could find the joy in it again. But it didn’t take long.” Yes, well when her job requires her to chat up celebs about their wardrobes, she is supposed to have her mind on her guest stars, right? After all, many of us are diagnosed mid-flight in life – holding down jobs, raising kids or caring for elderly parents, or all of the above – but most of us would say that breast cancer did, indeed, change us.
